On February 17, the Minnesota State Legislature will begin the 2026 Legislative Session. They will have until May 21 to pass legislation before adjourning for the rest of the year. As always, the Energy CENTS Coalition will be at the Capitol fighting for low-income utility customers. Here are the top priorities we will be working on.

Year-round access to energy assistance. Currently, Minnesotans are only able to apply for energy assistance between October 1 and May 31. As we did last year, ECC will continue to advocate for keeping the application window open all year long and providing a state supplement to federal funds.

More funding for low-income residential energy efficiency measures. We will be advocating for significant funding from the Renewable Development Account to fund weatherization projects for low-income residents of Native reservations and manufactured home parks.
